History

Hradec Kralove is an important university centre hosting six faculties of three universities. The city has a characteristic tradition of medical studies. In 1945, the Medical Faculty of the Charles University was established here. It further hosts the Faculty of Military Health Sciences of the University of Defence and the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Charles University. Approximately 8,000 students study at the University of Hradec Kralove – currently consisting of three faculties – the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Informatics and Management and the Philosophical Faculty. As far as the quantity of students is concerned, Hradec Kralove takes up one of the leading positions in the Czech Republic’s statistics. The presence of universities in the city creates beneficial conditions for the development of scientific and researching activities.

The building no.19, former catering establishment located at the former military airport site in Hradec Králové, was levied as the best place for execution of STP project.

In 2005, the city of Hradec Kralove began to carry out a series of feasibility studies of future project of Science and Technology Park. In 2006, Hradec Kralove applied for a subsidy from the EU Funds programme at Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (Operational Programme Industry and Enterprise). EPIS company processed the STP project. On 11.4.2006 the claim for subsidy was filed for on CzechInvest agency. On 11.9.2006 the city of Hradec Kralove received the approval for subsidy provision from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Gained grant helped to build and develop the infrastructure.

On 12.9.2007 the reconstruction of the building started. Nine months later, the reconstructed building was transfered to investor and then to provider the TECHNOLOGY CENTRE Hradec Kralove. On 16.6.2008 the final building approval proceed, then on 24.6.2008 the inauguration of the building took place.


The TECHNOLOGY CENTRE Hradec Kralove Not-profit Company was established in April 2006 as a keeper of the Science and Technology Park. The Science and Technology Park represents an effective tool for the development of businesses and employment in the area of innovations, high technology, and a symbol of cooperation among local and regional governments, local universities and Hradec Kralove business community.

On June 2007 TC HK became a member of Science and Technology Parks Association in Czech Republic. From October 2007 TC HK in cooperation with other partners has been making up the Regional Innovation Strategy of Hradec Kralove Region, that should influence the innovation progress in the region.
